  History - Part One

The school was a concept on paper as early as 1982 when planners were looking into the development of the southern part of Tuggeranong Valley.

Negotiations between ACT planners and the Catholic Education Office during 1984 resulted in the transfer of the Isabella Plains Catholic College to the site the school now occupies.  In 1985 a brief was issued to architects to commence drawing for the new College.

Government approval was granted to proceed with planning of a two-stage project.  Stage One consisted of a year 7 to 10 high school catering for 680 students; Stage Two a year 11 to 12 college to cater for 370 students.

Capital was secured in late 1987 when the Commonwealth Government allocated funding for the construction of Isabella Plains Catholic College; a cost of $9.1 million dollars payable over ten years.

It was then decided rather than the initially proposed two stage development, the college would now be developed in a single stage to cater for a total student population of 750 spanning years 7 to 12.

Throughout the planning stages, substantial research was conducted into the requirements of the new school, advice was sought from teachers and principals to ensure that the school would meet the demands of the future.

In October 1987, the Catholic Education office advertised the role of principal for the new school.  In December 1987 Greg Clune was appointed to the role.

During February 1988 the school was official designated St Peter's Catholic College.  The motto "Come Follow Me" and school crest was instituted during October 1988.

The inaugural public information night was held at Padua High School on 31 June 1988 to advise interested members of the community and to secure enrolments for the 1989 scholastic year.

From July 1988 staff were appointed, curriculum developed, furniture was acquired and portable classrooms were relocated to the Padua campus.

By the first orientation day held on December 15, St Peter's consisted of 6 staff and 59 students.

St Peter's commenced classes on January 30, 1989 with 65 students.
